The Fifth-Annual Wakefest Invitational returns to Miami on Saturday, February 15th. J. Wakefield, which hosts the event, expects over 2,500 enthusiasts and more than 110+ brewers. That’s a great attendee/brewery ratio.
For the uninitiated, Wakefest is one of the best invitationals in the country, and is certainly the best fest in Florida. Attendees this year are in for a lucky treat. This is the best Wakefest yet. The average Untapped score for the attending breweries is 4.0, one tenth of a point higher than the 2019 Wakefest.
The score improvement is thanks to a reshuffling of the attending breweries. The festival added the following breweries: Aslin, Bissell Brothers, Brasserie Cantillon, Burnish Beer Co., Drie Fonteinen, Evil Twin, Good Fire Brewing, Homes, Humble Sea, Laughing Monk, Left Handed Giant, Listermann, Main & Mill, Mocama, Modist Brewing, Mortalis Brewing, Narrow Gauge, Phase Three, Short Throw, Slice Beer, The 8th State, Toppling Goliath, Vitamin Sea, Whiplash. We’re excited to see Brasserie Cantillon, Mortalis Brewing, and Toppling Goliath.
Unfortunately, these breweries didn’t make the cut in 2020: Against the Grain, Ale Farm, All In, Almanac, Ardent, Basqueland, Blackberry Farms, Brasserie Popihn, Buxton, Captain Lawrence, Courtyard, CRAK, Frederiksdal, Good Beer Co., Graft Cider, More Brewing, Naparbier, NOLA, Speciation Artisan Ales, Stigbergets, Stone Brewing, Three.
Despite these changes, only one brewery had an Untappd score high enough to dethrone last year’s top 5 list – Brasserie Cantillon. Known as Cantillon, the Brussels-based brewery helped popularize the Lambic beer style. Cantillon is rarely at beer fests, so if you get a chance to try their stuff, don’t miss it.
